It is written that God "calls things that are not as though they were" (Romans 4:17). After watching Bama's win over the Hoakies I could not help but to consider a few aspects of the game that almost were. Now, obviously I am not God. I will not be bringing any dead plays back to life. Furthermore, playing the what if game is often a pointless endeavor. Unless, that is, you are attempting to evaluate your team. And in this case, being the first game of the year, one has to try to ascertain which things were areas of weakness and which things were merely a lack of execution that can be attributed to early season rust and first game jitters. Along those lines, I believe there were three aspects of the game that appeared to be weak or ineffective, but were in fact showed more promise than many have yet to express. Here they are:

There were obvious high points (Ingram's performance, the defense as a whole, and other receivers making important contributions) and puzzling decisions / mistakes ( 7 or 8 plays from the Wildcat formation, Rolo's temporary loss of self-control, a critical defensive breakdown, and a barrage of first half penalties).
