Everybody knew that this Alabama defense, despite the loss of Rashad Johnson and Bobby Greenwood, was going to be pretty darn good this fall. But the offense? Perhaps it would be good by the end of the season, after the offensive line had time to gel and after first-year starter Greg McElroy got rid of the deer-in-the-headlights look.

• Areas of Improvement: Grading Week 2 • Bama Sports Report
Before I get to actually grading the Tide on the areas that needed improvement, I just want to say how thankful I am that Alabama has the coaching staff that it has. After watching the unbelievably poorly coached West Virginia team squander a chance to beat Auburn, I have come to the realization that it has only taken two years and three games for me to become spoiled by this staff.

• Random Thoughts/Observations through 3 weeks • Walls98 Bama Ball
- Greg McElroy has been a pleasant surprise. No offense to JPW, who was a true bama man and warrior, but it is so nice to have a QB who can go through their progressions and throw to their 3rd or even 4th option. There will be ZERO dropoff at this position from last year.

• ALABAMA BEAT REPORT: Tide has its way with North Texas • The Press Register
-- OFFENSE: With the exception of a fumble on the game's first snap, Alabama basically had its way with North Texas' defense all afternoon. Quarterback Greg McElroy was sharp again, completing 13 of 15 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. The tailback tandem of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson was remarkably effective and balanced from the start. Ingram finished with 91 yards on only 8 carries; Richardson had 87 on 11 carries.
