-- Quarterback: There are plenty of valid arguments against picking either of these quarterbacks. For the second year in a row, Auburn's Brandon Cox is limping into the Iron Bowl after a disastrous performance against Georgia. At his best, Cox is only going to manage the offense effectively. Two hands are better than one. Auburn's state dominance continued for another year and, for the first time, can be counted on two hands. In the past six Iron Bowls, spanning 360 minutes of game action, Alabama has led for a grand total of 38 minutes, 54 seconds. In four of the six straight defeats to Auburn, Alabama never led. The coach responsible for Alabama's two leads: Mike Shula.

-- OFFENSE: Brandon Cox was unremarkable, but he made only one mistake. He ran the offense smoothly and effectively, and let Auburn's running game carry most of the load. Brad Lester (22 carries for 98 yards) and Ben Tate (11 carries for 77 yards) deserve credit for a night of tackle-breaking hard running. The receivers were largely written out of the script, as has been the case for most of the season. But senior tight end Cole Bennett (three catches for 22 yards) made an unexpected appearance in the box score in his final regular-season game.
