The 10th ranked University of Alabama men's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season after defeating Cal-Irvine (1-2 overall) 6-1 on the road at Anteater Tennis Stadium today.
The No. 4 University of Alabama softball team got its 2008 season off to a successful start with an 8-1 decision over instate rival South Alabama
The Alabama women's basketball team (8-15, 1-7 SEC) will remain at home to host the Vanderbilt Commodores (17-6, 6-2 SEC) on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2:00 p.m. The contest will mark the Think Pink game for Alabama as players and coaches will do their part by sporting the color pink. Mick Gillispie will once again call the action on CTSN.
Tonight's Alabama vs. Arkansas Gymnastics Meet, being held in Coleman Coliseum, is a sellout. A limited number of tickets are still being given away at Tuscaloosa Toyota on Skyland Blvd., but the meet is sold out.

The University of Alabama baseball team will hold its annual Fan Day on Saturday, February 16 in Tuscaloosa. Coach Bryant always said to win a national championship, you need Injury Luck and Schedule Luck. Basically, between the football injury bad luck and even the basketball injury bad luck, per my calculations, we are due about 347 good luck injury years in a row. All we need now is Schedule Luck. I think Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Florida are expecting outstanding years. Our luck is avoiding Florida. The bad luck? Georgia and LSU on the road. Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Carolina will all expect to have good years per their standards. But we get two at home and we avoid one. The University of Alabama women's basketball team (8-15, 1-7 SEC) suffered a 89-53 loss at the hands of the eighth-ranked LSU Tigers (19-3, 8-0 SEC) Thursday night in Coleman Coliseum. Freshman Tierney Jenkins led the Tide with 12 points while Sylvia Fowles paced all scorers with 24.

In a sea of pink, in front of a sellout crowd, the Alabama Gymnastics team scored a season-high 196.775 to beat Arkansas which posted a season-best mark of its own at 195.950. It was the Crimson Tide's fourth-annual "Power of Pink" meet, designed to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer with the gymnasts and fans alike dressed in pink.

During Friday's Alabama-Arkansas gymnastics meet, Dana Dobransky Duckworth was presented with the 2008 "Sarah Patterson Distinguished Alumni Award" given annually by the Medalist Club, the Crimson Tide's booster organization , to a member of the Alabama gymnastics family that has gone on to lead a life of distinction after graduation.

Freshman forward Tierney Jenkins recorded a SEC career-best 21 points but it was not enough as Vanderbilt handed Alabama a 92-47 loss Sunday afternoon in Coleman Coliseum. After the day, the Tide fall to 8-16 overall and 1-8 in SEC play. The Commodores improve to 18-6 on the year and 7-2 in league play.

The Alabama women's track and field team came off a two week layoff with an impressive showing Saturday at the Adidas Classic in the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Alabama was led by some key individual performances and multiple personal bests.
The University of Alabama softball team, ranked in the top five and picked as the preseason favorite in the Southeastern Conference entering the season, got its 2008 campaign off to a perfect start as it moved to 4-0 with an 11-0 win over Purdue in five innings. With the win, the Tide won the Hampton Inn Bama Bash title for the fourth straight time.

After falling to the top-ranked team a week ago and looking forward to a week off on Feb. 15, a team could sometimes get caught looking too far ahead or hanging on to the disappointment of a loss. But that wasn't the case for the Crimson Tide gymnastics team, which rebounded with a vengeance Friday night and posted a season-high 196.
The Alabama softball team kicked off its 2008 season with a bang as they hosted Jacksonville State, Purdue and South Alabama in the Hampton Inn Bama Bash and went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend. Alabama beat Jacksonville State and South Alabama once and Purdue twice by a combined score of 33-3 for the weekend, behind some exceptional individual performances.
Vanderbilt made a three-point shot to begin the game, and the Commodores never looked back as they dominated the Alabama women's basketball team 92-47 Sunday. The Crimson Tide shot just 33 percent from the field and turned the ball over 33 times in the game while Vanderbilt took advantage early and often.
TUSCALOOSA -- Nick Saban isn't an accountant, although he does have to crunch some numbers between now and August and he has mentioned balancing the checkbook before.

Head men's track and field coach Harvey Glance announced today the signing of two student-athletes for the 2009 track season. Tyler Campbell (Jasper, Ala.) and Aaron Stockstell (Iowa City, Iowa) will start classes at the Capstone in the fall.
Alabama men's tennis player Javier Bes picked up the SEC Player of the Week nod after turning in a perfect 4-0 performance last weekend, announced the league office today. The award is the first for Bes and the first for the Tide this year.

This in-state offensive lineman is getting interest from schools around the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
In my opinion, this is the most or second most important running series of blogs we do here at the CCC. It is an indepth examination of our recruiting class and a determination of where it ranks. But not against our SEC foes or our national competition. We leave that to Rivals, Scout and some cat named Luginbill whose wife apparently slept with Nick Saban. Just kidding, Tom. Anyhoo ... This is more accurate and informative in my opinion. It ranks this incoming group of signees against ALABAMA. That is, how does it look compared to all previous UA classes? Because we are fanatics and certifiably insane, we can do things like recall how good the 91 group was and how terrible the 96 group was. Therefore, when we say things like better than 91, I think that tells us a lot more than just saying Rivals says we signed more four stars than Florida. After all, our program is beyond any comparison except to itself.

Alabama goes for much-needed win against Ole Miss
The No. 10 Alabama men's tennis team got its first big win of the season at No. 21 Pepperdine over the weekend. The Crimson Tide defeated Pepperdine 4-3 Sunday, snapping the Waves' 58-match home winning streak. Alabama also knocked off UC-Irvine 6-1 on Friday.
The Alabama men's track and field team offered an impressive showing Saturday at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame by recording many season bests and earning a number of NCAA provisional marks throughout the day. "I was very pleased with the outcome of the meet," head coach Harvey Glance said.
