It's an uncomfortable setting for Alabama's basketball team, which has a game sandwiched between ninth-ranked Texas A&M and fifth-ranked Georgetown, but isn't playing well enough to take anyone lightly.
The Crimson Tide faithful will have to travel to Shreveport, La., on December 30 to see Alabama battle Big 12 opponent Colorado in the PetroSun Independence Bowl.
The official word was to be out Sunday night, but information was leaking early Sunday afternoon that Alabama would continue its unmatched bowl tradition. albeit with a team that hasnt played bowl worthy since mid-October.
Alabama's Javier Arenas electrified last year's Independence Bowl crowd with a late punt return for a touchdown. If his ankle injury is healed, the Crimson Tide sophomore will have another chance when Alabama returns to the Independence Bowl on Dec. 30.

In another wild night at Coleman Coliseum, the University of Alabama basketball team needed two three-pointers in the final twenty seconds of regulation to prolong the game before pulling out a 63-61 victory in overtime over Southeastern Louisiana. Mykal Riley took over in overtime, scoring all nine points for the Tide to put the Lions away.

Brad Smelley, from Tuscaloosa-American Christian, (Ala.), put on an incredible performance against Leroy last Friday night trying to lead his team to the Class 2A state championship. Bramble replaces Don Staley, who resigned after 14 years as the Tide's only soccer coach since the SEC began soccer in 1994.

BIRMINGHAM - Probably 364 days a year, Alabama's Richard Hendrix is the big guy.
A few months after coaching Roy Hibbert, Mark Gottfried has to develop a game plan against him. Alabama plays No. 5 Georgetown and its star center at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center tonight at 6 as a part of the first Big East/SEC Invitational. Gottfried served as an assistant coach for Team USA, which Hibbert played for, in the Pan-Am games last summer.
Despite struggling early in the year, there is reason for the Alabama women's basketball team to be optimistic heading into the rest of the season. The reason is the team's defense, which has kept them in every game and played a big role in its two wins.
